iPhone Users Complain About Purple Flare

iPhone 5 users have been complaining about a purple burst that has been appearing in some of their photos. Apple has confirmed that purple haze is considered normal behavior for the iPhone 5’s camera. Millions of users have reported when a bright source of light is in a photo, the light source takes on a purple glow. Some users have suggested that the purple shade is a result of a sapphire cover that is on the iPhone 5’s camera.

The iPhone 5 had the biggest launch in Apple’s history, selling over 5 million units in its first weekend. The issues with the camera is only been one of the problems that has been reported by iPhone 5 users. Complaints have ranged from issues with Apple’s new maps feature to the aluminum casing scratching too easily.

Here are some more pictures showing the purple flare:

Mobile Gaming is Dominating the Gaming Industry

In the past video games came on cartridges, you played them on a big fat tube television in your parent’s basement and you told your friends about the level you reached at school the next day.   Now you might still be living in your parent’s basement but the future of gaming is solidly mobile.   Anywhere, any-time, high quality gaming, that fits nicely in our pocket, is yours to have (at least on non Blackberry devices ~ zing).  The mobile entertainment industry was worth $33 billion last year, which is due in part to the success of smartphones like the iPhone and the plethora of Android devices like the HTC Thunderbolt.  These high powered computers were just waiting for people to turn them into gaming consoles.

The industry is undergoing a titanic shift, factors like the ease of publishing to the App Store, the extremely low cost to become a developer, the growth of Freemium games (games given away for free with revenues coming from alternative sources) and the rise of the female gamers (53% of mobile gamers are female) are rewriting the rules and making millionaires overnight.

Geekaphone has taken an in depth look at the numbers and stats behind the industry and have put together this informative infographic, all you have to do is pause your game for 1.4 minutes to take a look.

Is someone listening to your phone calls? How secure is your mobile phone?

That’s the FBI recording your phone calls… or maybe Rupert Murdoch getting ready for a full page spread on your dirty little secrets. Put on your tinfoil hat and join us in seeing how secure your phone is.
Geekaphone spent some time looking at wiretapping and how your phone can be used against you. Is the government spying on you? Probably not, but we have a list of ways to secure your phone and make sure that it is harder for someone to spy on you. Be sure to share your thoughts and tips in the comments.

Pimp your Phone: how to make your phone stand out

Who wants a boring phone? Nobody. Maybe you can’t afford a diamond and gold plated special edition of the iPhone (that and they’re pretty garish unless your a Saudi prince) and perhaps you’ll never be seen at the Palm playing Angry Birds with Rihanna. That doesn’t mean you can’t add a personal twist to your fancy new phone. From cases and ringtone to engravings, apps and backgrounds there are lots of ways to make your phone stand out. We’ve collectively made accessories a billion dollar industry, they’re the modern day racing stripe.
Interestingly you’ll probably price shop your phone to the last penny and then drop a tonne of cash on bling before you walk out the door. Accessories have crazy high profit margins, way more than the actual phone itself so your frugality is probably wasted on the phone. Geekaphone has taken a quick look at the industry and put together another tasty infographic. Enjoy!

How Green is the iPhone

Geekaphone just finished our green study of the iPhone and wrapped it all up in a tasty infographic.

Apple pulls in close to 50% of total global cellphone profits by selling only 4% of all cellphones, with that kind of profit and over 100 million iPhones sold Apple is a legitimate gorilla. So just how green is the gorilla’s smartphone?

Feel free to insert the full infographic on your blog, just credit us back using the code below the infographic.  Enjoy!

A Gallery of Photos Taken with iPhones

For the final article in the series about using the camera function of the iPhone I wanted to show a collection of photos the iPhone users around the world have taken and posted on Flickr Creative Commons. I think you’ll agree that some of these images are quite good. I hope you enjoy them.

iPhone HDR

This photo “iPhone HDR” taken by slack12 has been processed into an HDR image. Great work.

iPhone shot through a magnifying glass

“iPhone shot through a magnifying glass” captured by mathowie

Iphone and Picnik

This great cat image was captured by mastrobiggo. The vignetting was added using the Picnik app.

[iPhone] Stillgelegte Autobahnausfahrt

Great shot of Stillgelegte Autobahnausfart which if I remember my German means “Closed autobahn (highway) exit ramp” by taytom

iPhone Pilgrim

This image wasn’t taken with an iPhone but it does illustrate what some people are doing with their iPhone. The woman uses the monopod as her walking stick and has mounted her iPhone to the top of it. She has then mounted a piece of plastic over the lens so she can take macro photos with it. Ingenious. Thanks to coofdy for posting this on Flickr Creative Commons.

Moon Lake Sunset (iPhone)

Moon Lake Sunset was taken near Fairbanks, Alaska by Kelly Donaldson.

Photo taken with iPhone 4

Nice image captured by John Karakatsanis in Néa Alexándia, Athens, Attiki, GR.

iPhone - Kayaking Trip on Town Lake

This photo was taken on Town Lake in Austin, Texas by by jrandallc.

A second photo taken on Town Lake by jrandallc.

san fernando sunset with iphone

A San Fernando Sunset taken in Mission Hills, California by torres21.

iPhone macro

This macro photo was captured in Prickwillow, England, GB by by humblenick. To capture the shot the photographer held an extra lens from a disposable camera in front of the iPhone lens. Good work.

These are but a few of the creative, imagitive and excellent iPhone images that can be found on Flickr and Flickr Creative Commons. Now it’s your turn to go out and experiment with your iPhone and learning how you can take great photos.
